About

About Mihintale

Mihintale is the place where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka, when Arahat Mahinda met the king in 247 BC. A wide stairway of 1,840 steps leads to the summit, passing shrines and carved stonework on the way.

The top rewards the climb with a peaceful atmosphere and sweeping views across the plains towards Anuradhapura.
