Beruwala is a relaxed resort town on the south-west coast, with a long beach, a busy fishing harbour and a number of comfortable hotels. It is the base for a scenic morning cruise on the Bentara Ganga river.
The cruise winds through mangrove swamps and village life, and shows the plants and animals that live in these river ecosystems. The town is also known for the historic Kechimalai Mosque, one of the oldest in Sri Lanka.
